And now, the latest 777 Update, dated Tuesday, May 16, 2000.
"The news, not the bull ...."
Hello and welcome 2 another edition of the 777 Update, a Prince/
/Artist
news update which is not afflicated with Paisley Park in any way. Much news has been
happening since last month and a few suprises thrown in last minute. So R U ReAdY?
Then let's go.
Newz Item #1-A New Movie Staring Prince/
???
Director Jordan Brady announced over the weekend that an
"unofficial" sequel to "Purple Rain" is in the works. The working title
is "Velvet Hail." Brady says, "It's about an aging rock star who was hot in
the (19)80's, who now shops for pork chops&uot; (hmmm, don't you mean Tofu, Brady?) He
continues, "It's a spoof and it'll be a musical. 'Purple Rain' was probaly a 45-minute
movie if you take out all the musical numbers ... really a short story with a bunch of funk
numbers." Brady has in mind for Prince's competitor in "Velvet Hail" will none
other be Chris Rock. That is who he has in mind. No contracts have been signed and no
movie company has yet backed the project.
Brady's latest movie, which is in post-production,
"Wakin' Up In Reno," which cast features newly married Billy Bob Thornton (who I now
refer to as "Lucky Bastard"), Natasha Richardson, Patrick Swaize and Charlize Thereon,
is considered by Hollywood standards a new kid on the block. He has very little clout but
the buzz on this movie has been very well recieved, so basically if "Reno" is even
a small success, "Velvet Hail" could very well be picked up and given the go.
Paisley Park had no comment on this situation and
's
publicist could not be reached. Maybe this will be discussed at the upcoming press conference.
Newz item #2-Prince: A Celebration at Paisley Park June 7-13
Tickets went on sale for this once in a lifetime event Saturday at
1800newfunk.Com for only $70 dollars. The price includes passes to The Park during
the day and admission to the Paisley Parties every night, and the concert of all concerts,
on june 13. "The Man" himself will be perforing at the University of Minnesota.
There are still tickets available at this time, and daily passes will be sold for $15.
On June 3rd, more concert tickets will be released. There was talk earlier this year of
special goodies being made available for visitors of the Paisley Parties -- remixes and etc.
Let's see if that holds true. Maybe like in Ohio, there will be a Prince or Prince protege
look-a-like night thrown in the mix.
Newz item #3-Press Conference May 16
Tour / Name Change to Happen?
There will be a press conference today in Manhattan / New York City, so
look for details on media outlets plus MTV and VH-1 to show snippits of the conference.
The press conference is to discuss the upcoming celebration in Minneapolis and the tour
itenerary. There has been more speculation than ever that
will be going back to the name of Prince. Every year around his birthday, small articles
circulate but more then ever, and this year it has been reported by some major new outlets,
sparking speculation as well. Is the concert on June 13 2 be by "The Man" himself?
No
or Artist? Could he be toying with us? Or
is it true? Seven is his favorite number and on June 7 it will be seven years since the name change.
He is supposedly going to drop by the offices of MTV / VH-1 to hand over the new video, "Hot
Wit U." I wonder if Eve's rap or Eve herself is in the video? Let's see if he even
stops by there. No word yet if him and L.A. Reid (new honcho at Arista Records) have agreed
to promote "Rave." I am sure that will come up in the press conference as well
as details to the Special Edition "Rave." Hopefully he will answer questions from
the media as he did when having the press conference for the "Jam Of The Year Tour"
in July 1997. I just want to know if he is really serious about this movie or if it is some made
up mumbo jumbo.

The Update was to be sent out after the press conference, but we wanted to make sure
that we could be one of the first to break the new movie plans. And a day later would have insured us
that we would not be the first. So, expect a mini-update shortly with the ? of the month included.
J7 from The Update staff is going to attend The Celebration and is thinking about meeting some Purpleheadz
(but will his shyness make him back out?). So, if anyone is planning on attending, let us know, especially
people from Minneapolis, even if J7 does not attend, at least others of The Update can hang out
together.
Special thanx 2 Prince.Org for posting
The Update. For all the letters we have recieved, I wish the giving away of the "Livin' 2 Die"
track was less plagued with internet problems, but I hope all enjoyed the track who recieved it.
If you have not money ordered the new book by Per and the Uptown staff,
"Days Of Wild," I suggest you do. This is the ultimite Prince bible and should be in all
Purpleheadz' book shelves and coffee tables.
This is gonna be one exciting summer, don't you think? =-)? B wild y'all. ... J7
